Don Bosco Network-BOSCONET in collaboration with Luminous Pvt. Ltd. is implementing a women’s empowerment project in Una district around the Luminous plants. The project aims at the social empowerment of women through income generation. Three hundred women from the below the poverty-line (BPL) category; widows; single mothers and farm labourers have been organised into 30 self-help (SHG) groups. The SHG members are undergoing capacitation trainings in group dynamics, financial literacy, and credit linkage among others.

Ten such capacitated SHGs will be provided training in tailoring skills. Two tailoring centres are being set up in Una district where the women will be trained to use industrial sewing machines (ISM). Twenty SHGs will be trained in other trades such as mushroom cultivation, making of candles, pickles etc. The women’s trade will be supported by marketing consultants who will identify products, markets, and aid the women in setting up a supply chain through which they can sell their products.
