DON BOSCO NETWORK

Improving the quality of education for tribal children in Tinsukia

The Don Bosco Network-BOSCONET in collaboration with Magneti Marelli is upgrading the infrastructure of the schools in Khobong and Tinsukia in Assam; setting up computer and science laboratories and toilet complexes. These schools benefit around 1158 children of tribal tea estate workers and casual labourers, who have traditionally been denied access to education. The high-tech labs are indispensable to comprehensive scholastic learning and will encourage the children further in academics.

Availability of clean and hygienic sanitation facilities directly impact regular school attendance, especially among girl children. The children are trained to become stewards of sanitation within their communities. Community awareness campaigns on sanitation and hygiene using rallies, street plays, posters etc. are part of the activities of the children in these two schools. Through these school interventions, the Don Bosco Network and its partners will impact the entire communities of these areas positively.
