Suresh, 5 years old, suffered from frequent seizures because of a tumour in his brain. Due to his frequent seizures, he had lots of bruises all over his body. He lived with his grandparents in West Bengal because his mother had passed away and his father worked in Thrissur district of Kerala. Whenever he had the required money for his treatment, his father would take him to Sree Chitra Hospitals, Trivandrum. During one such visit, the doctor instructed the father to take an MRI scan of Suresh’s head. He was unable to do so due to lack of money. He asked an acquaintance for some money which would take two days to mobilise. Suresh’s father didn’t have the money to stay in a lodge, so they slept in the bus stops. The Police noticed them and informed CHILDLINE about Suresh’s condition.
In response to the situation, the CHILDLINE service coordinated by Don Bosco partners presented Suresh to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) which directed his treatment and rehabilitation. He was provided with free check-ups and treatment in Sree Chitra Hospitals, Trivandrum. After the initial treatment, Suresh was sent to Agape, a shelter home in Kollam. Suresh has shown considerable improvement ever since. Suresh’s father was supported with better employment opportunities to be able to provide for his child.
