The Integrated Village Development initiative implemented in Elaimbedu and Kattavur villages of Ponneri Block, Thiruvallur District, Tamil Nadu, is making a profound impact on the lives of 3,040 people. This initiative focuses on the holistic development of the communities, aiming to enhance education, empowerment, infrastructure, healthcare, and livelihood opportunities.
Educational Support: The project has made substantial strides in improving the education system, with the installation of six smart boards—three in each of the two local schools—benefiting 19 teachers and 297 students by creating an engaging and effective learning environment. Additionally, 50 sets of benches and desks have been provided, along with extracurricular activities to encourage well-rounded development. The installation of RO water purifiers has ensured access to clean drinking water for the students. Over 70 children from underprivileged families now have access to free academic coaching, with nutritious snacks provided at the tuition centers. To support school attendance, especially for female students, free transportation has been arranged to prevent dropouts due to distance.
Infrastructure Development: The project has also focused on improving local infrastructure. The anganwadi center in Kattavur was completely renovated, providing 20 children with a safe and hygienic space, complete with new play equipment. A new Community Learning Centre has been constructed in Kattavur, which will serve as a livelihood enhancement training center for the local community, offering garment-making and other vocational training. Additionally, the installation of 18 surveillance cameras has enhanced security in both Elaimbedu and Kattavur, ensuring greater safety for residents.
Community Engagement & Development: In addition to the infrastructure and educational improvements, the project has actively engaged with the community through events such as career guidance sessions for 100 students, which have helped improve their focus and exam preparedness. Celebrations like Harvesting Day (Pongal) and Women's Day have further strengthened social bonds and community ties, creating a supportive and united environment.
This Integrated Village Development Project continues to drive positive change, contributing to the long-term development of Elaimbedu and Kattavur villages, and improving the quality of life for their residents.
